Visit the medieval city and the blonde beaches of the most all time classic travel destination of the Aegean sea.

Explore the island of Rhodes

To enjoy Rhodes Holidays, you must dedicate at least ten days to it. If you want to be in the center, choose as a base of accommodation a good hotel around the city of Rhodes, in Ixia (almost a continuation of the city), Ialyssos, Kallithea or Faliraki. Those who want sea and calmness and want some distance from the city, the best solution for families is Kolimbia.

Alternatively, you can choose one of the newer and relatively quiet resorts in the south, such as Kalathos or Kiotari, just a short distance from the city. A car is necessary for the beaches, but also for excursions inland.

Choose one of the ten entrances and explore the magnificent medieval city, created by the Order of the Knights of St. John, with its impressive walls, squares and temples. Knights Street with its imposing buildings, the Palace of the Grand Master, the Archaeological Museum, the folklore bazaar on Socrates Street, the Suleiman Mosque and the ascending Arion Square, the old baths, and some very beautiful bars.

When to Visit Rhodes for Holidays

Rhodes is an island that is lively all year round, so if you want to avoid the crowds, the beginning and the end of summer are recommended, as well as spring or autumn.

What to see in your Rhodes Holidays

Medieval City of Rhodes
Atmospheric and alive, it is a mosaic of ancient, medieval, Byzantine, Ottoman and Italian monuments. The most emblematic street is the Street of the Knights, while the main attractions are the Palace of the Grand Master, the Archaeological Museum at the Hospital of the Knights.

Monolithos Castle
Small, cute village built amphitheatrically on the south part of the west coast of the island. Its main attraction is the medieval castle.

Faliraki beach
The beach is located at a distance of about 14 km from the city of Rhodes. Faliraki was always full of action and intense nightlife, which lasted until sunrise. In recent years, this trend seems to have somewhat subsided.
In addition to its many local pubs, discos and restaurants, guests will be amazed at the variety of local tourist shops in the area. Faliraki also has a popular sandy beach, which extends to a length of over 5 km.
In addition, there are a variety of water sports, such as donut rings, bananas, water skiing, jet skiing and bungee jumping.
Note! Faliraki is definitely not suitable for visitors looking for relaxation on the beach or a more quiet atmosphere.

Mandraki Harbor
A small port ideal for a walk and to admire the imposing buildings of the Italian occupation, which today house public services and the Municipal Theater. It is also worth visiting the famous aquarium or enjoying your coffee in one of the patisseries of the beach.

Lindos village
Very beautiful settlement, with the citadel at the top and “Cycladic” color. The captain’s houses with the pebble courtyards(pebble mosaics) is the trademark of the village. It is worth visiting a captain’s house and admiring the wooden painted ceilings, the embroidered bench (bridal bed), the sofas and the decorated walls. You will be impressed by a visit to the edge of the city just before sunset, as you will admire both the ruins that illuminate the history of the city and the view.

Embonas Village
On the west side of the island, on the slopes of Ataviros. Primarily a grape village, it has several wineries. The traditional elements of the village do not justify the visit by themselves, but they make a good combination with the wine and the taverns.

Vati Village
A small village with plenty of greenery – for those who prefer tourism without a cosmopolitan wrapper – and few visitors (mainly locals). Suitable for hiking, with a few interesting taverns.

Lachania Village
Low white houses, blue glazed windows and carved stone gates compose a small village taken from a postcard. Many houses have already been bought by foreigners. Small tavern-cafes for guests without many requirements.

Rodini Park
A small valley-amusement park in the south of the city: plane trees, rhododendrons, willows and ponds compose an interesting ensemble for a walk.

Baths of Kallithea
The famous thermal baths of the interwar period, retain the glamor of the once cosmopolitan resort thanks to the vaulted buildings, the magnificent pebble mosaics, the arches and the atriums with the palm trees. In the center dominates the rotunda – its massive dome with its ornate decoration is impressive.

Butterfly Valley
A natural park, where thousands of butterflies appear from June to August. The scenery is completed by ponds, shady paths that cross the forest and wooden bridges – everything you need for a cool walk.

Filerimos Mountain
Classic tourist attraction on a hill in the northwest of the island. The monastery, the stepped road of Golgotha, the ruins of the citadel of Ialyssos, the Doric fountain and the paths compose an archeological park

Rhodes Holidays Gastronomy – Local products

Few dishes of local cuisine are revived to this day. Pitaroudia (tomato meatballs with onion), soupiorizo (risotto with cuttlefish ink), lakani (beef against tomato sauce) and talagoutes (pancakes with honey and sesame) are some of the delicacies you can find in taverns. Widespread traditional dessert, which you will come across only in homes and celebrations, are melekounia (a type of pastel). The local vineyard remains alive and the restaurants offer you the opportunity to try local wines. You will also find wineries to visit. White Athiri (the best of the mountain vineyards) and Mandilaria with the local name Amorgiano dominate in variety.

Top Rhodes Holidays beach

The most famous are located on the east coast. They are basically organized, with sunbeds and facilities.

Agathi: A beautiful bay of 38 km away from the town of Rhodes. One of the best seaside with white sand, clean water and organized umbrellas.

Tsambika Beach: Large organized sandy beach – You can go up the hill of the church, to get an amazing view.

Afandou Beach: A pebble beach with deep water and a family profile.

Anthony Quinn : Natural stone sunbeds, that the famous star J. Lee Thompson loved when he was shooting “Navarone Cannons” here.

Ixia Beach & Ialyssos Beach (Ialysos): Typical tourist beaches with large hotels.

Be sure to dive further south to Kiotari (wet sand and water sports), Glystra (pebbles and pines) and Prasonisi the southernmost tip of the island, with a trademark of the homonymous rocky islet and sandy beach that surfers love.
In the area of Agios Pavlos and Gennadi you will also find pristine sandy beaches with dunes and cedars (some accessible by dirt road).
