Explore the island of Crete

Crete is the largest island in Greece and is suitable for summer holidays. You will be impressed by its indescribable beauty and it will be unforgettable! The Crete island stands out for a very basic reason, for its many and famous beaches with crystal clear waters and endless sandy beaches. Whichever place you choose to stay, you will definitely find a beach that will steal your heart and leave you with the best impressions.

Crete is a big island. Therefore, it is not just an island that you can explore in 2-3 days. It has great places and you need time to shoot them all or at least most of them.

What to see in your Holidays to Crete

The gorge of Samaria in Crete is the largest gorge in Greece and one of the largest in Europe.
It is located in the southwest of the prefecture of Chania. The gorge of Samaria has a length of 16 km, starts from the altitude of 1250 meters in the village of Omalos and reaches the shore of the Libyan Sea in Agia Roumeli. The distance you will walk in the National Park of Samaria Gorge is 13 km, but you will need to walk another 3 km from the exit of the Park to the village of Agia Roumeli.

Τhe palace of Knossos is the largest, most complex and most fancy of all the palaces known to us and is located about twenty minutes south of Heraklion. Knossos was inhabited for several thousand years, starting somewhere in the seventh millennium BC. According to Greek mythology, the famous architect Daedalus designed the palace with such complexity that none of those who entered could find the way out.

Located on the north side of Dikti mountain in Crete at an altitude of 1020 m. It is considered one of the most important internationally known caves, with great mythological and archaeological interest. There Rhea, hidden from the fury of Saturn, gave birth to Zeus. The cave seems to have been used as a place of residence and burial since 2800 BC.

The Cretaquarium water park is located in Heraklion, Crete, just 15 km away from the city center. The idea for the creation of the Marine World belongs to employees of the former Institute of Marine Biology of Crete. The aim of the Cretaquarium, which is a unique park of research, education, culture and leisure, is to disseminate knowledge about the marine environment.

Top Crete beach

Elafonissi and Balos are among the top beaches of Crete. When you visit these heavenly places you will be enchanted by the pink sand that exists there.
Why is it pink? They are the broken shells and in particular some tiny crustaceans called Foraminifera, which when they complete their life cycle and die leave behind their crimson shells.

These remain in the water and are crushed in the sand, therefore the water acquires this impressive shade!

It is the pink beach. Located in western Crete 75 km southwest of Chania and the landscape there is literally heavenly. The white sand takes on some pink hues while the crystal clear waters invite you to dive into the dream. The narrow peninsula of Elafonissi seems to be cut by a shallow lagoon that separates the main beach with the famous island and the experience is unique.

At the northwestern tip of Crete you will find an exotic beach-lagoon that leaves the visitor with an open mouth. Very fine sand and shallow crystal clear waters compose a dreamy setting while at the same time it is a protected area from the Natura program.

Running waters, palm trees and white sand are the three main features of this paradise beach in the prefecture of Rethymnon. Having matched all the elements of nature it is famous and a favorite of visitors to the island.

An exotic place with fine sand and clear waters, so big and wide that it makes you think you are on another tropical island. It is one of the most famous destinations on the island.

Also known as Gaidouronisi, Chrysi beach is a paradise approached by a boat from Ierapetra. Beaches with water in all shades of blue in a unique color palette.

Heraklion is one of the best old towns ever visited. Full of nightlife, very good restaurants and small cafeterias. Every night was an amazing experience! Ruins of Knossos were a wonderful day trip too.
